Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

Instructions

  1. Cream the shortening and sugar together.
  2. Stir in egg, molasses, and vinegar.
  3. Beat well.
  4. Sift dry ingredients together and add to the mixture.
  5. Chill the dough.
  6. Roll between wax paper and cut with gingerbread man cookie cutters.
  7. Use candy or raisins for eyes, buttons, etc.
