Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 cups Crisco

Instructions

  1. Cream the Crisco and add eggs; mix well.
  2. Combine the flour, soda, baking powder, cocoa, and salt; add to the creamed mixture.
  3. Add sour milk and mix until smooth.
  4. Add boiling water gradually and mix thoroughly.
  5. Drop by tablespoon onto greased baking sheets.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 8 minutes.
  7. While cookies are baking, cook 6 tablespoons of flour with 1 1/2 cups of milk until thickened.
  8. Beat in 1 1/2 cups of Crisco with powdered sugar until fluffy.
  9. Add cooled thickened mixture and vanilla; beat until creamy.
  10. Spread the filling between two cookies to assemble.
