Golden Cheese Wheel
Golden Cheese Wheel features a savory stuffed bread filled with melted Muenster cheese and herbs, baked to golden perfection. Perfect for sharing at gatherings or family dinners.
Ingredients
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast ⓘ
- 2/3 cup warm water (110-115°F) ⓘ
- 2 cups all-purpose flour ⓘ
- 2 Tbsp. cooking oil ⓘ
- 1/2 tsp. sugar ⓘ
- 1/2 tsp. salt ⓘ
- 1 beaten egg ⓘ
- 3 cups (12 oz.) shredded Muenster cheese
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped ⓘ
- 1/2 tsp. garlic salt ⓘ
- 1/8 tsp. pepper ⓘ
- 1 slightly beaten egg ⓘ
- 1 Tbsp. water ⓘ
Instructions
- Soften yeast in warm water.
- Beat in 1 cup of flour, cooking oil, 1/2 teaspoon sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
- Stir in enough of the remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough.
- Turn out onto a lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 to 8 minutes.
- Place in a lightly greased bowl, turning once to grease the surface. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 2 portions.
- Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
- Roll out each portion to a 13-inch circle.
- Place one circle on a greased round pan.
- Combine 1 beaten egg, shredded Muenster cheese, chopped parsley, garlic salt, and pepper; spread over the dough in the pan.
- Place the second dough circle over the cheese filling.
- Trim the edges and flute the dough.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes.
- Mix the remaining beaten egg with 1 tablespoon of water; brush over the top of the baked bread.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake for an additional 12 minutes.
- Cut into wedges and serve hot.
