Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup wheat bran
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, thoroughly combine flour, bran, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cut in margarine with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse bread crumbs.
  3. Stir in golden raisins.
  4. Blend 1/2 cup of milk with the egg thoroughly.
  5. Gradually add the milk mixture to the flour mixture, stirring just until moistened.
  6. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead 10 to 12 times.
  7. Pat the dough into a circle 1/2-inch thick.
  8. Cut into 8 wedges.
  9. Arrange the wedges on a cookie sheet.
  10. Combine remaining milk with brown sugar and brush the mixture onto the surface of the scones.
  11. Shape the dough into a cone shape.
  12. Bake at 350°F (175°C) approximately 10 to 12 minutes until golden.
