Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cooking oil
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Frosting (follows)

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs well; add sugar and syrup, and beat again.
  2. Sift all dry ingredients (flour, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, soda, salt) and add to the mixture.
  3. Mix boiling water and cooking oil together; add to the batter and mix thoroughly.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  5. Bake in a slow 350°F (175°C) oven until well done, approximately 35 minutes.
