Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter or oleo
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter, white sugar, brown sugar, beaten egg yolks, and water until smooth.
  2. Add flour, soda, baking powder, salt, and vanilla to the mixture and blend well.
  3. Spread the dough onto a greased cookie sheet and pat out thin.
  4. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the top of the dough.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form; gradually add 1 cup of brown sugar while beating.
  6. Spread the meringue mixture over the cookie dough and chocolate chips.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes or until lightly golden.
