Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup pumpkin
  • 3/4 cup walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves in a bowl.
  3. Cream margarine and add sugar and eggs until well blended.
  4. Alternately add dry ingredients and pumpkin to the creamed mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
  6. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and bake for 65 to 75 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool the loaf in the pan for a few minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Optional: glaze the cooled loaf before serving.
