Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. pork sausage (hot)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, slivered
  • 10 oz. can tomato paste
  • 13 oz. can tomatoes and chilies
  • 16 oz. can crushed tomatoes
  • 16 oz. can pinto beans
  • 2 cans (16 oz. each) kidney beans
  • 2 cans (16 oz. each) water
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef, pork sausage, chopped onion, and slivered garlic until meat is crumbly. Drain off grease.
  2. Place the cooked mixture in an 8-quart pot.
  3. Add tomato paste, tomatoes and chilies, crushed tomatoes, pinto beans, kidney beans, water, chili powder, salt, sugar, and vinegar.
  4. Bring to a boil, stirring often.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer for 3 hours, adding more water as needed to maintain moisture.
  6. Serve topped with grated Cheddar cheese and a dollop of sour cream.
