- In a large skillet, brown the chopped bacon lightly.
- Drain off all but 2 tablespoons of drippings.
- Add the chopped apple and minced celery; cook until tender. Remove from heat.
- In a bowl, mix the eggs, water, thyme, and chicken broth.
- Combine the cooked bacon, apple, celery, onions, cornbread stuffing, and sliced almonds; mix well.
- Pour the egg mixture over the stuffing mixture and stir to combine.
- Spoon the mixture into a greased 8 x 12-inch baking dish.
- Cover and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
- Remove from oven, add Durkee onions to the top of the stuffing, and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
- Serve hot.
