Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. chuck steak
  • 2 oz. fat or oil
  • 2 oz. mushrooms
  • 2 medium onions
  • 3 carrots
  • 2 stalks celery
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 level Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 pt. beef broth

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a skillet and brown the chuck steak all over.
  2. Place the browned meat in an oven-safe pan.
  3. Brown the sliced onions, carrots, and chopped celery in the skillet.
  4. Add the cooked vegetables, mushrooms, and chopped garlic to the meat in the pan.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over any fat or juices in the pan.
  6. Stir and cook briefly, then gradually add the beef broth while stirring.
  7. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  8. Season well with salt and pepper, then pour the mixture over the meat.
  9. Cover the pan and cook in a preheated oven at 325°F (160°C) for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
  10. Check the gravy and thicken if necessary before serving.
  11. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
