Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons grated orange rind
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup nuts

Instructions

  1. Grease a loaf pan or cake pan.
  2. Blend together the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda; set aside.
  3. Melt the butter in boiling water.
  4. Stir in orange rind, orange juice, sugar, vanilla, and egg until well combined.
  5. Add the dry ingredients and nuts to the wet mixture.
  6. Stir just until everything is blended; the batter will be lumpy.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  8. Arrange walnut halves on top of the batter.
  9. Bake in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
