Ingredients

  • 1 c. pastry flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. Grape-Nuts flakes
  • 1 c. oatmeal

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
  2. Cream shortening, white sugar, and brown sugar together.
  3. Stir in egg, vanilla, crushed Grape-Nuts flakes, and oatmeal.
  4. Beat all ingredients together until well combined.
  5. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a buttered cookie sheet.
  6. Flatten cookies with a knife or fork dipped in cold water.
  7. For delicate cookies, flatten until almost paper thin.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 8 to 10 minutes.
  9. Allow cookies to cool before removing from the baking sheet.
