A hearty baked macaroni and beef casserole with smoky barbecue flavor, cheesy layers, and savory vegetables, perfect for comforting family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 stems celery, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 Tbsp. cooking oil
  • 1 pkg. macaroni
  • salt to taste
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 small can tomato sauce
  • a little hot sauce
  • a little Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Saute chopped onion, celery, bell pepper, and minced garlic in cooking oil in a skillet.
  2. Cook the macaroni in salted water until al dente, then drain.
  3. Remove vegetables from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Brown the ground beef in the same skillet with salt and pepper, then pour off excess grease.
  5. Mix the sautéed vegetables with the browned meat.
  6. Add barbecue sauce, tomato sauce, hot sauce, and Worcestershire sauce to the meat and vegetable mixture. Let simmer for a few minutes.
  7. Drain water from the cooked macaroni.
  8. In a baking dish, layer half of the macaroni.
  9. Spoon half of the meat sauce over the macaroni and sprinkle with 1 cup grated cheese.
  10. Repeat layers with remaining macaroni and meat sauce, topping with 1 cup grated cheese.
  11. Bake at 350°F until the cheese melts and is bubbly.
