Creamy beef stroganoff with tender cubes of beef, mushrooms, and a rich sour cream sauce, perfect for comforting dinners and impressing guests alike.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. stewing beef, cubed
  • 2 Tbsp. cooking oil
  • 3 small onions
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 Tbsp. ketchup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 large bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. allspice
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 5 oz. cooking wine (white)
  • 3 oz. can sliced mushrooms
  • 10 oz. can mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Heat cooking oil in a large pot or frying pan and brown the cubed stewing beef.
  2. Add Worcestershire sauce, ketchup mixed with water, garlic powder, bay leaf, salt, allspice, and white cooking wine to the browned beef.
  3. Optionally, add the liquid from the can of sliced mushrooms.
  4. Cover and simmer the mixture for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the can of mushroom soup (undiluted) and sliced mushrooms to the pot.
  6. Heat through until hot.
  7. Add the remaining 1/4 stick of butter and heat through.
  8. Stir in the sour cream until well combined.
