Tips & Substitutions

For a deeper flavor, consider adding a tablespoon of cocoa powder or a dash of smoked paprika. If you're short on time, you can use pre-cooked or canned beans instead of dried. For a spicier kick, increase the number of jalapenos or add a pinch of cayenne pepper. You can also swap ground chuck for turkey for a lighter option.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this chili hot with a dollop of sour cream, shredded cheese, or chopped green onions on top. It pairs beautifully with Linda'S Blueberry Crumb Cake for dessert. For a complete meal, consider serving with cornbread or over rice. A side of Frugal Gourmet'S Coleslaw can add a refreshing crunch.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. For longer storage, freeze the chili in portions for up to 3 months. When reheating, do so on the stovetop over low heat or in the microwave, adding a splash of water or broth if it has thickened too much.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this chili ahead of time?

Absolutely! In fact, the flavors deepen and improve when made a day in advance. Just let it cool, then store it in the refrigerator. Reheat thoroughly before serving. This makes it a great option for meal prep or gatherings.

Is it necessary to add beer to the recipe?

While beer enhances the flavor of the chili, you can substitute it with beef broth or even water if preferred. The alcohol cooks off during simmering, leaving a rich taste, but you won’t lose out on flavor with these alternatives.

Can I adjust the spiciness of the chili?

Yes! You can easily modify the heat level by adjusting the number of jalapenos or using milder peppers like bell peppers. For a milder chili, remove the seeds from the jalapenos or omit them altogether. Conversely, add more spices for extra heat.
