Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • dash of salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 cup coffee
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Bring cocoa, coffee, and butter to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Sift together flour, sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the boiling coffee/cocoa mixture and mix well.
  4. Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla to the mixture and stir until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool before frosting or serving.
