Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 3/4 cup melted shortening
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Add beaten eggs to sugar, molasses, and melted shortening.
  2. Add flour, sifted with baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
  3. Add boiling water and mix well.
  4. Pour batter into a greased pan.
  5. Bake in a 350°F oven for about 40 minutes.
  6. Serve warm with Victory Sauce and whipped cream.
