- Steam the frozen mixed vegetables in a covered pan using 1/4 cup water until tender, then drain and save the liquid for the sauce.
- Add salt, garlic salt, and 2 tablespoons of butter to the vegetables, mixing gently. Set aside.
- Prepare the Mornay sauce by melting 1/4 cup butter in a saucepan, then stirring in 1/3 cup flour to form a roux.
- Gradually add 2 cups of the vegetable cooking liquid to the roux, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
- Stir in 2 cups of half and half, Parmesan cheese, nutmeg, thyme, garlic salt, and salt. Cook until the sauce thickens.
- Spread half of the cooked vegetables in a casserole dish, then pour half of the sauce over them.
- Add the remaining vegetables and top with the remaining sauce.
- Sprinkle bread crumbs over the top and drizzle with 1/4 stick melted butter.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
