Sweet and spicy molasses fruit cookies feature a rich blend of raisins, dates, nuts, and warm spices, perfect for holiday treats or comforting snacks.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. white sugar
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 c. raisins, chopped
  • 1 c. dates, chopped
  • 1/2 c. nuts
  • 2 tsp. soda, dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Cream together sugar, molasses, shortening, and eggs.
  2. Add cinnamon, salt, cloves, flour, chopped raisins, chopped dates, and nuts; mix well.
  3. Dissolve soda in hot water and add to the mixture.
  4. Drop by teaspoon onto a cookie sheet or roll and cut.
  5. Store in refrigerator and bake as desired.
