- Cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Put soda in buttermilk and set aside.
- Sift together the flour, cocoa, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk mixture to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
- Stir in the blackberry jam, strawberry preserves, chopped nuts, and raisins (if using).
- Pour the batter into a greased and floured tube pan lined with greased brown paper.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before removing from the pan.
- Top with caramel frosting before serving.
