Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 12 oz chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 pound brown sugar
  • 1 cup nuts (optional)
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  2. Melt butter over low heat.
  3. Stir in brown sugar until mixed, then set aside to cool slightly.
  4. Beat in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Add flour mixture; stir well.
  6. Mix in chocolate chips and nuts if using them.
  7. Pour into a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
  8. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes at 350°F.
  9. Do not overbake!
  10. Let cool, then cut into squares.
