Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 lb. beef stew meat
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 6 c. hot water
  • 3 medium potatoes
  • 4 carrots
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 c. celery
  • 1/2 c. diced onions
  • 1 Tbsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, 1 teaspoon salt, and pepper.
  2. Coat meat with flour mixture.
  3. Melt shortening in a large skillet; brown meat thoroughly.
  4. Add water; heat to boiling.
  5. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 2 hours.
  6. Stir in remaining ingredients.
  7. Simmer for 30 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
