Ingredients

  • 3 cups crumbled cornbread
  • 2 to 3 eggs
  • 2 to 2 1/2 cups light bread
  • 4 to 5 cups turkey or chicken stock
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped celery
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon sage

Instructions

  1. Mix crumbled cornbread, light bread, chopped onion, chopped celery, pepper, salt, and sage in a large bowl.
  2. Add 2 to 3 beaten eggs and melted butter to the bread mixture.
  3. Gradually pour in 4 to 5 cups of turkey or chicken stock, mixing until the dressing is soft and has the consistency of cake batter or thick soup.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a greased 13 x 9 1/2-inch baking dish.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Alternatively, stuff the uncooked dressing into the bird for roasting.
