Ingredients

  • 1 lb. beef stew meat
  • salt
  • pepper
  • flour
  • 2 medium onions
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 1 3/4 cups water
  • 1 can condensed tomato soup
  • 1 small bay leaf
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 stalk celery

Instructions

  1. Cut beef stew meat into 1-inch cubes, sprinkle with salt and pepper, then roll in flour.
  2. Melt 3 tablespoons of oil in a skillet and brown the meat well.
  3. Transfer the browned meat to a 2-quart casserole.
  4. Lightly brown the onions in the fat remaining in the skillet and add to the meat.
  5. Add the seasoning (bay leaf, cloves) and sliced celery, then stir well.
  6. Cover and bake in a 325°F oven for 1 1/2 hours.
  7. Add the canned peas, sliced carrots, potatoes, and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  8. Stir the vegetables into the meat mixture.
  9. Cover and continue baking for 20 minutes or until the vegetables are cooked.
