Ingredients

  • 1 lb. beef top round steak
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 cups broccoli, cut up
  • 2 medium carrots, sliced

Instructions

  1. Partially freeze the beef to make it easier to slice.
  2. Cut the beef on the bias into thin, bite-sized strips.
  3. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar, 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, minced garlic, pepper, and red pepper to prepare the marinade.
  4. Stir in the sliced beef to coat it evenly.
  5. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  6. Heat the remaining cooking oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.
  7. Add the marinated beef and cook until browned and cooked through.
  8. Add broccoli and sliced carrots to the skillet and stir-fry until vegetables are tender-crisp.
  9. Mix cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry and add to the skillet to thicken the sauce, if desired.
  10. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
