Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups rice
  • 1 1/4 lbs. ground sirloin
  • 2 tsp. oil
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 tsp. minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 (14 1/2 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced pimento-stuffed green olives, drained
  • 1/4 cup golden raisins
  • 1/4 cup white wine (optional)
  • 1/8 tsp. cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cook rice according to package directions.
  2. In a large skillet, heat 2 teaspoons oil over medium heat. Add ground sirloin and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  3. Stir in chopped onions, minced garlic, black pepper, ground cumin, ground cloves, and cinnamon. Cook until onions are translucent.
  4. Pour in the stewed tomatoes and white wine (if using). Add sliced olives and raisins. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens slightly and flavors meld.
