Tips & Substitutions
For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey with more vegetables or mushrooms. You can also use quinoa instead of rice for a healthier twist. Make sure to remove the thick veins from cabbage leaves to ease rolling. If you prefer a spicier kick, add cayenne pepper or use a hotter Cajun seasoning. To save time, prepare the filling a day in advance.
Serving Suggestions
These Polish Cajun Cabbage Rolls pair beautifully with a dollop of sour cream and a side of crusty bread. A fresh green salad or steamed vegetables complement the richness of the dish. You can also serve them with a tangy vinaigrette to brighten the flavors. For a hearty meal, consider serving alongside mashed potatoes or rice.
Storage & Reheating
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To reheat, place the cabbage rolls in a baking dish with a splash of water, cover with foil, and warm in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 25 minutes or until heated through. Alternatively, microwave individual servings for 2-3 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I freeze cabbage rolls?
Yes, you can freeze uncooked or cooked cabbage rolls. If freezing uncooked, assemble the rolls and place them in a single layer on a baking sheet until firm, then transfer to a freezer bag. For cooked rolls, allow them to cool before freezing. To reheat, bake directly from frozen, adding extra time to ensure they're heated through.
What can I substitute for sauerkraut?
If you don't have sauerkraut, you can use a mixture of shredded cabbage with a splash of vinegar to mimic the tangy flavor. Alternatively, consider using pickled vegetables or kimchi for a different flavor profile. Just be mindful of the salt content, as these substitutes may be saltier than sauerkraut.
How can I adjust the spice level?
To adjust the spice level, you can choose a milder Cajun seasoning or reduce the amount used in the recipe. Adding ingredients like smoked paprika or a little sugar can help balance the flavors if it's too spicy. For those who enjoy heat, consider adding chopped jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the filling.
