Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups chopped dates
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Mix together chopped dates and hot water; let this mixture cool.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream together butter, eggs, and sugar.
  3. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture.
  4. Add vanilla, then fold in the cooled date mixture.
  5. Pour batter into a greased 13 x 9-inch pan.
  6. Top with chopped nuts and chocolate chips.
  7. Bake in a 350°F oven for 30 minutes.
