Ingredients

  • 1 head red cabbage, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sweet butter
  • 2 red onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 apples, pared and finely sliced
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 2 teaspoons caraway seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine chopped red cabbage, red wine vinegar, and salt; let stand for 5 minutes.
  2. Heat sweet butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the sliced red onions and cook until translucent.
  4. Add the cabbage mixture to the skillet, turning it to coat with butter.
  5. Stir in the sliced apples, brown sugar, chicken broth, caraway seed, salt, and pepper.
  6. Cover and cook on low heat for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
