Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 c. Swiss cheese or Mozzarella, shredded
  • 1/2 c. creamy Russian dressing
  • 1 1/2 c. caraway rye bread crumbs, dried
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 (4 oz.) sauerkraut, drained

Instructions

  1. Combine beef, onion, Worcestershire sauce, Russian dressing, salt, beaten egg, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  3. Roll out the beef mixture in jelly roll fashion on a sheet of foil.
  4. Divide the mixture in half; on one half, layer Swiss cheese and drained sauerkraut.
  5. Place the other half of beef mixture over the layered cheese and sauerkraut.
  6. Use the foil to help lift and shape the beef into a roll.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes, reducing to 300°F after half the time. Do not overbake.
