Tips & Substitutions

To enhance the flavor, consider marinating the round steak in the Worcestershire sauce for a couple of hours before cooking. If you don’t have beef extract, a beef bouillon cube dissolved in water can work as a substitute. For a bit of heat, add a dash of hot sauce to the gravy. Remember to adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences.

Serving Suggestions

This hearty dish pairs beautifully with rice, which absorbs the rich gravy. For a complete meal, serve it alongside steamed vegetables or a fresh salad. You can also enjoy it with mashed potatoes or a side of crusty bread for dipping. For variation, consider serving it with a side of Cabbage And Beef Dish for a comforting dinner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different cut of beef for this recipe?

Yes, you can substitute round steak with other cuts like chuck roast or flank steak. Just adjust the cooking time as needed, as different cuts may require different amounts of time to become tender.

Is there a way to make the gravy thicker?

Absolutely! If you prefer a thicker gravy, you can mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry and stir it into the gravy during the last 10 minutes of cooking. This will help thicken it up nicely.

Can I make this dish ahead of time?

Yes, this dish can be made ahead of time. In fact, it often tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld together. Simply reheat it gently on the stove, adding a little water if necessary to maintain the desired consistency.
