  2. Remove chicken and spoon out all but 3 tablespoons of fat from the skillet.
  3. Mix chopped chives, garlic, flour, sliced mushrooms, parsley, thyme, and pepper together and sprinkle over the chicken in the skillet.

  6. Add the sliced mushrooms with their liquid and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using bone-in chicken pieces instead of boneless. You can substitute the chicken bouillon with homemade broth for added depth. If chives are unavailable, green onions are a great alternative. For a twist, add some diced bell peppers or carrots to the skillet. This dish pairs wonderfully with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the savory chicken on a bed of hot cooked rice, allowing the sauce to soak in. Garnish with additional chopped parsley for freshness. This dish pairs well with a side of steamed green beans or a crisp garden salad. For a hearty meal, consider serving with crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.

Storage & Reheating

To store leftovers, place the chicken and rice in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. For reheating, add a splash of water or broth to the dish to prevent it from drying out. Microwave on medium power for 2-3 minutes or until heated through, stirring halfway for even heating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use other types of chicken for this recipe?

Yes, you can use thighs or drumsticks instead of breasts for a more flavorful dish. Just adjust the cooking time as darker meat generally takes a bit longer to cook through.

How can I make this dish spicier?

To add some heat, consider incorporating red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce into the skillet along with the other seasonings. You can also serve it with a side of spicy pickled vegetables.

Can I make this dish in advance?

Absolutely! You can prepare the chicken and sauce ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. Just reheat before serving, and make fresh rice so you have the best texture. This is great for meal prep.
