- In a skillet, brown the pork blade steaks on both sides in shortening.
- Pour off the drippings from the skillet.
- Season the steaks with salt and pepper.
- Reserve 1/4 cup of the condensed beef broth; pour the remaining broth into the skillet.
- Add sliced onions, quartered carrots, and quartered potatoes to the skillet.
- Sprinkle dried basil over the vegetables and meat.
- Cover the skillet and simmer for 45 to 60 minutes or until the meat and vegetables are tender.
- Drain the juices from the skillet and add water to make one cup of liquid for gravy.
- Combine the remaining broth with flour to make a slurry, then add to the pan juices.
- Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and bubbles.
- Pour the gravy over the cooked meat and vegetables before serving.
