Ingredients
- 1 small head lettuce, shredded or chopped
- 3/4 cup chopped celery ⓘ
- 1/3 cup chopped red pepper ⓘ
- 1/3 cup chopped green pepper ⓘ
- 8 canned and sliced water chestnuts ⓘ
- 1/3 cup carrot shreds ⓘ
- 10 oz frozen peas ⓘ
- 2 cups mayonnaise ⓘ
- 1 tablespoon sugar ⓘ
- 1/2 pound bacon, cooked and crumbled ⓘ
- 1/3 cup grated Romano cheese
- 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese ⓘ
- 1 hard-cooked egg ⓘ
- 1 tomato, cut into wedges ⓘ
Instructions
- Layer the shredded lettuce, chopped celery, chopped red pepper, chopped green pepper, sliced water chestnuts, carrot shreds, and frozen peas in a large salad bowl in the order given.
- Combine mayonnaise and sugar; spread this mixture evenly over the layered vegetables to cover.
- Sprinkle the grated Romano and Parmesan cheeses over the mayonnaise layer.
- Cover the salad with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours or overnight.
- Before serving, garnish with sliced hard-cooked egg, crumbled bacon, and tomato wedges.
- Do not toss the salad before serving.
