Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 2 tart apples, peeled, cored, and shredded
  • whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream butter, sugar, and vanilla until fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Mix flour, baking soda, and nutmeg.
  4. Add half the flour mixture to the butter mixture and beat well.
  5. Gradually add the remaining flour, beating well after the last addition.
  6. Fold in chopped walnuts and shredded apples.
