Ingredients

  • 12 slices thin day-old bread
  • 2 cups chopped cooked shrimp
  • 1/2 pound American cheese slices
  • 4 beaten eggs
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. Arrange 6 slices of bread in a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan; remove crusts from bread.
  2. Add half of the chopped cooked shrimp and American cheese slices over the bread.
  3. Make another layer of bread, shrimp, and cheese on top.
  4. In a bowl, combine the beaten eggs, cream of mushroom soup, milk, and pepper.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole.
  6. Let stand for at least 15 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes or until puffed and lightly browned.
