Tips & Substitutions

For best results, ensure your broth is warm but not boiling when mixing with other ingredients. If you don't have wheat germ, you can substitute it with ground flaxseed for a similar texture and nutritional boost. If you prefer a sweeter treat, consider adding a bit more honey. Kneading the dough until it's no longer sticky is crucial for achieving the right consistency.

Serving Suggestions

Storage & Reheating

Once cooled, store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, you can freeze them for up to three months. To reheat, simply place them in a warm oven for a few minutes until they are slightly warmed through, enhancing their texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use different types of flour in this recipe?

Yes, you can substitute some of the whole wheat flour with other flours like oat or almond flour, but this may affect the texture and taste. It's best to maintain a balance to ensure the treats hold together well.

Is there a way to make these treats more nutritious?

Absolutely! You can enhance the nutritional value by adding grated carrots or pureed pumpkin to the dough. This not only boosts the vitamins but also adds moisture and flavor to the treats.

How can I tell when the treats are fully baked?

The treats should be firm to the touch and lightly browned on the edges when done. If you're unsure, you can break one open to check that they are dry inside before removing them from the oven.
