Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons cloves
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 box raisins
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Boil raisins in 2 cups water for 10 minutes.
  2. Save 1 cup of raisin juice for the cake.
  3. Cream together shortening, sugar, and eggs.
  4. Add flour, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, salt, raisins, and the reserved raisin juice.
  5. Mix until well combined.
  6. Pour batter into a greased tube pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour.
