Spicy Chocolate Cake
Ingredients
- 2 sq. (1 oz. each) unsweetened chocolate ⓘ
- 1 tsp. instant coffee ⓘ
- 1 c. boiling water ⓘ
- 1 1/2 c. raisins ⓘ
- 1/2 c. chopped walnuts ⓘ
- 1 1/2 tsp. flour ⓘ
- 1/2 c. butter ⓘ
- 1 3/4 c. light brown sugar ⓘ
- 2 eggs ⓘ
- 2 tsp. vanilla ⓘ
- 2 c. all-purpose flour ⓘ
- 1 tsp. salt ⓘ
- 1 tsp. baking soda ⓘ
- 1/2 tsp. allspice ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon ⓘ
Instructions
- Dissolve chocolate and instant coffee in the boiling water; set aside.
- Mix raisins and walnuts with the 1 1/2 teaspoons flour; set aside.
- Cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla; beat thoroughly.
- Add chocolate mixture.
- Sift flour with salt, soda and spices; add in thirds, alternately with sour cream, beating until smooth after each addition.
- Fold in raisins and nuts.
- Turn into a 10-cup greased and floured tube cake pan.
- Bake at 325° in preheated oven for 50 minutes.
