Tender cube steaks cooked in a sweet and tangy pineapple sauce with ginger and peppers, perfect for a flavorful dinner served over hot rice.

Ingredients

  • 6 frozen cube steaks
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions
  • 1 can (1 lb. 14 oz.) sliced pineapple
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 green pepper, cut in strips
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Brown the steaks quickly in butter in a large skillet.
  2. Add chopped onions, green pepper strips, salt, and pepper to the skillet.
  3. Cook until lightly browned.
  4. Add sliced pineapple including juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, and ginger.
  5. Heat the mixture thoroughly.
  6. Blend cornstarch and cold water into a smooth paste.
  7. Remove the meat, pineapple, and pepper strips from the skillet.
  8. Stir the cornstarch mixture into the liquid in the skillet, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens and becomes clear.
  9. Return the meat, pineapple, and peppers to the skillet and heat through.
  10. Serve hot over rice.
