Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp. margarine
  • 2 c. chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped green pepper
  • 2 (1 lb.) cans tomatoes, broken up
  • 2 (1 lb.) cans kidney beans, drained
  • 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 to 4 tsp. chili powder
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper

Instructions

  1. In margarine, braise the ground meat, chopped onion, chopped green pepper, and minced garlic in a large pot.
  2. Heat until the meat is browned and vegetables are softened.
  3. Add broken-up tomatoes, drained kidney beans, tomato sauce, chili powder, bay leaves, salt, and pepper.
  4. Bring to a boil over an open fire or stove.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer until flavors meld and chili is thickened, approximately 1 to 2 hours.
