Streusel Caramel Bars

- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, light brown sugar, and beaten egg.
- Cut in 3/4 cup cold margarine or butter until mixture is crumbly.
- Stir in 3/4 cup chopped nuts.
- Reserve 1 1/2 cups of the crumb mixture; press the remaining mixture firmly on the bottom of a greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
- Bake for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, unwrap 18 caramels and melt them with the sweetened condensed milk in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth.
- Pour the caramel mixture over the baked crust.
- Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture over the caramel layer.
- Bake for an additional 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
