Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup beer
  • 1/3 cup cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 pounds flank steak
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 4 cups sliced onion
  • 12 slices French bread
  • 1 cup dairy sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon horseradish

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, combine beer, cooking oil, salt, garlic powder, and pepper.
  2. Marinate the flank steak, covered, overnight in the refrigerator or for several hours at room temperature.
  3. Drain the marinade from the steak.
  4. Broil the steak 3 inches from the heat for 5 to 7 minutes on each side for medium rare.
  5. While the steak is cooking, melt butter in a skillet and sauté sliced onions until tender and caramelized.
  6. Slice the cooked steak thinly against the grain.
  7. Spread toasted French bread slices with sour cream mixed with horseradish and paprika.
  8. Layer sliced steak and onions on the bread slices, then top with more sour cream if desired.
  9. Serve the sandwiches hot and enjoy.
