Ingredients

  • 8 slices bacon
  • 2 tsp unflavored gelatin
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 pound fresh mushrooms chopped
  • 1 cup green onions chopped
  • 1/4 cup dry white or red wine
  • 2 tsp basil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 tsp Tabasco
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley snipped
  • 1 large loaf French bread

Instructions

  1. Cook bacon until crisp.
  2. Drain and crumble bacon, set aside.
  3. Reserve 2 tablespoons of bacon drippings.
  4. In a skillet, cook chopped mushrooms, green onions, garlic, and herbs in bacon drippings.
  5. Add wine and cook until liquid is reduced.
  6. Stir in whipping cream, salt, Tabasco, and gelatin dissolved in cold water.
  7. Cook until mixture thickens.
  8. Cut the French bread into portions and hollow out the centers.
  9. Fill the bread with the mushroom mixture and crumbled bacon.
  10. Bake until heated through and bread is crispy.
