Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups Pace mild picante sauce
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 3/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup (4 oz.) shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 (2 1/2 oz.) jar sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1/4 cup sliced ripe olives (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine picante sauce and tomato paste; mix well.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Italian sausage (casings removed), 1/2 cup of the picante sauce mixture, chopped onion, bread crumbs, egg, and Italian seasoning.
  3. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  4. Divide the meat mixture in half.
