Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 (2 oz.) jar chopped and drained pimento
  • 1 (3 oz.) can chopped green chilies
  • 3 tablespoons chopped onion flakes
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, cornmeal, and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a mixing bowl. Cut in shortening thoroughly.
  2. Sprinkle in water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until all flour is moist.
  3. Form dough into a ball and press out on a pizza pan.
  4. Chill the crust for 1 hour before adding toppings.
  5. Pre-bake the crust if desired, then spread cooked ground beef over the crust.
  6. Top with chopped pimentos, chopped green chilies, chopped onion flakes, chili powder, basil, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder.
  7. Sprinkle shredded Cheddar cheese over the toppings.
  8. Bake until cheese is melted and bubbly, then serve.
