Ingredients

  • 15 oz. can extra long asparagus or 12 fresh stalks
  • 5 large turkey slices
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 5 slices French bread
  • 2 oz. jar sliced mushrooms
  • 2.5 oz. dried beef
  • 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Place the asparagus with its liquid in a pan.
  2. Layer the turkey slices on top of the asparagus.
  3. Heat the assembled mixture to serving temperature.
  4. In another pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  5. Blend in the flour and gradually stir in the milk, cooking until thickened, stirring constantly.
  6. Add the shredded Cheddar cheese and stir until melted into the sauce.
  7. Drain the sliced mushrooms and add to the sauce.
  8. Stir in the dried beef, Worcestershire sauce, and pepper to taste.
  9. Toast the slices of French bread.
  10. Place a turkey slice on each toasted bread slice.
  11. Top with drained asparagus, then spoon the sauce over each sandwich.
