Vegetable steaks layered with mushrooms and onions, baked in a creamy sour cream sauce, offering a hearty, flavorful vegetarian main suitable for family dinners and special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 (20 oz.) can Dinner Cuts or Rounds
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon parsley
  • 1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms
  • 1 pint sour cream
  • 1 cup juice from Dinner Cuts and mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Drain the steaks and mushrooms, reserving the juice.
  2. Dip the steaks in beaten egg, then coat with bread crumbs.
  3. Fry the coated steaks in oil until brown on both sides.
  4. Sauté chopped onions and mushrooms in a little oil until tender.
  5. Layer the fried steaks, sautéed onions, and mushrooms in a casserole dish alternately.
  6. Combine 1 cup of the reserved juice with sour cream and pour over the layered casserole.
  7. Add milk if necessary to reach desired consistency.
  8. Bake in a 350°F oven for 30 minutes or until bubbly and the top is lightly browned.
  9. Let stand a few minutes before serving.
