Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. lean ground round beef
  • 2 strips bacon, cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cans pork and beans (1 lb. 15 oz. each)
  • 1 (1 lb.) can pinto beans
  • 1 small package frozen lima beans
  • 1/4 cup catsup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
  • 3 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • dash black pepper

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet; pour off excess fat.
  2. Put the cooked beef into a Dutch oven.
  3. In the skillet, sauté the bacon and chopped onion until almost done.
  4. Stir the bacon and onion mixture into the Dutch oven with the beef.
  5. Add the remaining ingredients to the Dutch oven.
  6. Simmer on low heat for 2 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally.
  7. Alternatively, transfer the mixture to a large baking dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 minutes.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
