Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 6 whole walnut halves

Instructions

  1. Combine baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg; set aside.
  2. Cream butter, brown sugar, and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs, sour cream, and applesauce to the butter and sugar mixture; mix well.
  4. Blend in flour mixture until just moistened.
  5. Mix in raisins and chopped walnuts.
  6. Pour batter into a greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
  7. Decorate the top of the loaf with 6 walnut halves.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour or until a wire cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  10. Turn out onto a rack and cool completely.
